As promised, I am writing to give you a quick update on what the Maidencombe Residents Association have been involved in. Since April, we have held three quiz evenings at the Thatched Tavern – thanks to Ziggy, Brian and Rodney who were great quiz masters! – funds raised were for Community Projects and also for charity. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported us.
Our liaison with other groups has proved really positive and I attended Consultation meetings with representatives of local councils and the Dartmoor National Park Group looking at producing guidance on future planning legislation where Greater Horseshoe Bats are present.
Rodney & I also attended the Public Hearing in May where the inspector sought clarification on the Neighbourhood Plan. Members of the Neighbourhood Forum with whom we work presented our case with passion & conviction and the inspector recorded his comments on the excellent work that had been done. We are now at a point where we are looking at his report & seeking clarification and changes to some important points before the Plan goes to referendum.
In May we also had a working party to clear the growth on the steps down to the beach and managed to get rid of the nettles and other growth. The railings are now repaired following our liaison with the council, and we are looking at tidying up the approach to the beach so as it looks welcoming for residents & visitors alike. We have plans to repair & replace the railings between the car park & beach steps which will again improve things.
In June we held another successful Safari Supper where 18 couples enjoyed some great food & company. Please think about getting involved at the next supper in October – it’s really good fun!
So looking to the future, we have the Maidencombe Summer Fete on Sunday 22 July – Not To Be Missed! Starting at 2pm on the village green, there will be a huge variety of stalls, games, the wonderful fun dog show, egg throwing (don’t ask!) Bouncy Castle and BBQ, culminating with a Barn Dance from 5pm. We have some fantastic raffle prizes including Rock Solid Coasteering & Devon Sea Safari Vouchers, Beauty from Jem Baylin and a meal at the Thatched Tavern to name just a few. If you can contribute any items for the bottle stall, cake stall, book stall, and Tombola that would be wonderful. You may also like to nominate a friend for a stint in Ye Old Maidencombe Village Stocks – wet sponges available! Let’s make it a really good day.
On Sunday 19 August we are hoping to hold a Petanque (French Boules), Pimms and Picnic on the village green. Please come along & join the fun. There are a number of other events in the pipeline, but if you have a suggestion please please let us know.
It’s been great to welcome new members over the last 3 months – if you are not already a member of the Maidencombe Residents Association, or if you have any thoughts or questions, please contact me on 07802 288 000 or email me at chris.daviesdevon@hotmail.com. Finally, a huge thank you to the committee who have worked hard to care for the beautiful place we all call home.
Very Best Wishes
Chris Davies
